ed Al4-Wednesday, September 17, 1980 - North Shore News community roundup Tracy's tiaraa work of art When North Vancouver's Tracey Wheeler was named Miss P.N.E. last month, the tiara with which she was crowned was no ordinary piece of jewelry. The tiara is made com- pletely of pieces that can be removed for cleaning and polishing and was con- structed in 1967 by the British Columbia Faceter’'s Guild comprising of amateur hobbyists including = a number of North Shore residents. The tiara was handicrafted by Harold Sutton of Maple Ridge as a_ centennial project, and centres around the Dogwood blossom as the main motif. : Presented to the Pacific National Exhibition, the tiara is perhaps one of the more visible aspects of the work of B.C. Lapidaries. On September 19, 20 and 21, the 41 Rock and Gem clubs from throughout the province will display their craft at the B.C. Gem and Mineral Show in the Pacific Showmart Building. A non-proft and non- competitive event, this 23rd annual show, entitled “The Magic of Rocks’ will feature many excellent displays and exhibits of gems, fossils, minerals and crystals. Three North Shore clubs, the Lapidary Club of West Vancouver, the North Shore Rock and Gem club, and the Rockcrafts Guild of North Vancouver, will be par- ticipating in the show. The show will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, from 10 to 10 on Saturday and from 10 to 6 on Sunday. Special guest at the show will be world renowned cameo carver, Erwin Pauly, of Idar Oberstein in Ger- many, and a display of gold panning will also be featured.
