SeaBus operations manag- er Ross Stevens said the con- trol room coordinator on the North Vancouver side of the Burrard Inlet saw the unlit rowboat tip and spill its crew of wo into the water near Cates Tugs at about 11:20 p.m. The coordinator then radioed =the — approaching SeaBus, which was about 1,200 feet (365 m1) from the north terminal. The SeaBus, which was carrying a full load of 400 passengers and four crew members, swung off course to rescue the rowboat’s occu- pants. A regular SeaBus journey from one side of Burrard Inlet to the other takes approxi- mately 12 minutes. Because of the rescue, the ScaBus arrived at the North Vancouver terminal at 11:40 pm. abour 15 minutes behind schedule. Stevens said the SeaBus has been involved in similar impromptu rescues in’ the past.
