The vastness Of the open water and the absolute silence was scary. Time seemed tc stop. The days dragged and the nights seemed like an cternity as their dinghy drifted aimlessly. through the darkness. Their _ minds flooded with thoughts of their loved ones, and their own situation. On June 8, they were spot- ted by an Air Sea Rescue Squadron plane out of Gibraltar. Other planes were alerted and kept the dinghy in view until an American destroyer picked them up. A few days later they returned to England. The eight men have not kept in touch. Returning home after the war, Ed worked for a timc at roofing and installation, and at selling real estate. ~ In 1952 on the North Shore, Ed and his partner Bob Evernden formed Crest Realty. Bob built houses and Ed sold them. Their company grew, as did their army of salespeople, and the rest is his- tory — still in the making. Ed and Norah moved into their North Vancouver home in °56 and into their West Vancouver home in *71, where Ed still resides. Norah passed away in 1984. After four long, lonely years, Ed met another won- derful lady, Beverley, and they were married in December of 1988. High on Ed’s list of inter- ests are antique cars. He owns a 1912 Kissel Roadster and a 1929 Ford Model A Sedan. In the *60s Ed shipped, via a trailer, his Ford Model A to Halifax. He took a fight to the coastal city and joined up with a grou driving their antique cars from Halifax to Vancouver. He delights in talking about that experience. This past June, Ed and Beverley drove their 1912 Kissel Roadster to a four-day gathering on Salt Spring Island. Although retired, Ed can’t seem to quit work. Most after- uoons he is in the office look- ing after his other business interests, but owice a vear, | time out for Ed and Beverley is basking in the Arizona sun.
