Staffing stations

THE PROVINCIAL government wants to cooperate with
Ottawa in keeping staffed lighthouses on the West Cuast,
according to the Ministry of Employment and Investment.

Minister Glen Clark asked Ottawa in December to delay
destaffing eight of 35 B.C. lighthouses this year. The feder-
al government plans to automate all the West Coust light-
houses including Point Atkinson in West Vancouver. Clark
said staffed light stations are vital to marine safety.

Cyclist struck

A 31-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man, struck by a vehi-
cle while riding his bike at the intersection of Brooksbank
Avenue and Keith Road, is in serious condition at Lions
Gate Hospital.

The incident occurred at about 7 a.m. on Jan. 5, accord-
ing to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. The cyclist
was eastbound on Keith, when he was struck by a westbound
vehicle which was making a left turn onto Breoksbank.

Armed robbery

A MAN armed with a knife entered a service station in the
100-block of West Third Street at about 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 7
and made off with an \ndisclosed quantity of cash. :

The suspect is described by Nerth Vancouver RCMP as
beiig a Caucasian man in his early 20s, about 5’9” (175
cm), 150 pounds (67 kg), with a medium build. He had short
blond hair and was wearing a red jogging jacket, jeans and
a Moosehead baseball cap. The police link the suspect to a
