The Better Business Bureau has
issued a warning thal telemarketers
from eastern Canada appear to be
blitzing: Vancouver-area consumers
with announcements saying “You
have won..." and requesting pay-
ments. Cars, TVs and Canada
Savings Bonds are among the so-
called ‘prizes for which the “win-
ners” are expected to make a pay-
ment. The BBB reminds consumers
that if an offer sounds too good to be
true, it probably is. :

Ballard selis interest

North Vancouver's Ballard
Power Systems Inc. has sold its
interest in the company’s 46%
owned subsidiary, Ballard Baitery
Systems Corporation (®8BS) to
Bashaw Holdings, Ltd.. listed on
the Alberta Stock Exchange.

This sale is part of an agreement
with Bashaw Holdings Ltd. to
acquire all shares of BBS for an
aggregate purchase price of $3.7
million. BBS is a manufacturer and
developer of advanced batteries for
use in military and specialized
industrial applications.

Learning Centre receives
Envirofund gravt

The Eslha’a’n’ Learning’
Cenire in North Vancouver is one
of four recipients of a VanCity 1994
EnviroFund grant. The centre’s
grant of $21,000 will be used to
train native youth from the
Squamish Nation in waste manage-
ment techniques and to establish a
recycling program for North
Vancouver reserves.

The EnviroFund was estab-
lished in 1990 to support positive
and creative solutions to the region's
pressing environmental concerns.
