By Bruce Methven Contributing Writer The park was closed around noon after a district employee dis- covered a foot protruding from the ground in a heavily wooded area. The grisly find was made at about 9:30 a.m. just south of the upper parking lot. RCMP confirm they have excavated a shallow grave site and forensic examinations are under way. “We are treating the case as a homicide at this time,” said Insp. Jamie Grahain. “Our number one concern right now is to look upon the discovery as a package of physical evi- dence.” Graham said. Forensic tests were curried out Thursday and Friday before the body was removed from the site. The park was closed for more than 24 hours as curious bystanders tried 1o get a glimpse of what lay beyond the cordoned- off area beyond the bright yellow police tape. Van heroin charge A VIETNAMESE refugee, ordered to be deported from Canada in 1992 for a convic- tion involving an armed home invasion, faces a drug charge in North Vancouver. By Michael Becker News Editor Vu Van Le, 30, is charged with trafficking following an Aug. 16 sale of $600 worth of heroin to an undercover North Vancouver RCMP officer. Le was granted the right to per- manent residence in Canada in November of 1987 at the Vancouver International Airport. The Vietnamese Catholic Church in Calgary sponsored Le as a designated class convention refugee. . In 1989 he was involved in a home invasion in Calgary. Le was subsequently released on bail. In December of the same year he was convicted for assault with a weapon as well as unlawful con- finement. Le was sentenced to a 3.5 year jail term. In Ociober of 1992, Le was ordered to be deported from Canada as a result of his convic- tion. Le appealed the deportation order to the federal Immigration and Refugee Board earlier this year in February. The board ruled that the execu- tion of the deportation order be stayed for a three-year period. Among the terms and condi- tions under which Le was allowed to remain in the country: M that he report to a Canada Immigration Centre office twice a year: M that he provide details of employment or efforts to obtain employment as well as living arrangements: that he participate in anger management courses: MM that he keep the peace and be on good behavior.
