Nine players from North Shore Select Metro teams have been selected to B.C. under-14 all-star teams, The players are: Greg Campbell, John Chabada, Bryn Dacres, Bevan Footman, Jason Jantz, Tom Larisch, Kyle McDiarmid, Michael Patterson, and James Whalen, The nine players are coached by Syd Wacres and Darren Embley during the regular season. GYMNASTICS... A number of members of the West Coast Dynamos ‘gymnastics club recently competed at the Zone 5 vault/beam competi- tion. In the divisional B Argo category (10-!1 years old) Xatic Halloran finished first overall, followed by Christina Campbell, Elodie Gillett: and Natalie Paruk. In the Tyro division (12-13 years old), Leiiani Mosher was the all around champion, winning toth the vault’ and beam -events. Star Sutherisnd finished behind Mosher in both disciplines to claim the silver medal overall. In: the - Open category (14+ years old), Stephanie Tassin finish- ed first overall, followed by teammate Nadja. Gehriger in second spot. Ariel Swan won the gold all-around medal in the nine-year-old division. In Maple Ridge on March 13- 15, two West Coast Dynamos’ members finished first in their respective categories during the second of three trials designed to select teams in novice and junior. power tumbling to represent B.C. at the National championships in. Toronto in May. Blythe Hartley (national novice) and Karen Gill (junior national) both finished first in their - divisions. Hartley won the first trial and Gill finished second, : SYNCHRONIZED . SWIM- MING... Nerth Vancouver’s Janice Bremner came up with impressive showings at the B.C. Championship A Syn- chronized Swim Meet held March 6 and 7 at the North ‘Surrey Pool. Bremner and Susan Crews of Coquitlam teamed up to win the duet championship. The pair hopes to represent Canada at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria. Bremner placed second in the.senior solo cat- egory with 176.5184 points, just behind. first-place finish- er Crews. Bremner and Crews, along with their B.C. Aquasonics teammates, placed first in the senior team event. The 1996 Olympics, to -be held in Atlanta, will have an eight- person team even in = syn- chronized swimming and both Bremner and Crews hope to be part of that team. Bremner and Crews were also recognized in the west-ever girls’ category for the level they have achieved in the [5- to 17-year-old senior jevel in synchronized swimming. UNIVERSITY HOCKEY... West Vancouver native Jason Jennings played his final reg- ular season game as a Western Michigan Bronco last week. Jennings, an assistant captain, is one of four seniors not returning next season. By Roxanne Gregory . Contributing Writer The excitement was contagious as. five-pin bowlers from four Vancouver clubs and one Squamish team competed against five teams from the North Shore. Eclectic styles brought strikes and spares and the first-place trophy to Vancouver’s No. 3 team, who bowled 229 points above their average. The Squamish team, on the heels of winning the Wally Gourlay Memorial trophy in Van- couver, finished second with 17] points above their average. The North Shore’s No. 4 team placed fourth. Bowling 71 points above his average, Jeff Wall of the North Shore's No.. 4 team took the trophy for men’s high single. Or- na Henderson, a member of the Vancouver’s No. 3 team, took the women’s high. single, with 76 points above average. “We have been hosting this tournament for the past five years and it’s wonderful to see so many familiar faces,’’ said program coordinator May Wilson. The North Shore will be sending one five-pin' team to the provin- cial games in Coquitlam in July. Teams selected at this year’s pro- vincials. will go to the national Special; Olympics Games in Halifax next year.
