Local waiters test their skills on skis SEYMOUR SKI Country recently presented the sixth annual Kokanee Waiter’s Ski Challenge to benefit B.C.’s Children’s Hospital. Lower mainland restaurants, bars and hotels entered teams of four competitors. Teams ac- cumulated points for their timed runs down an obstacle course and for their costumes. Competitsrs cartied a drink on a tray and skied tricky obstacles like the triple camel bumps, the jungle, the pyramid jump, the trap and the wall of death. Teams won prizes for individual as well as team efforts down the race course. Jake O’Crady’s Pub’s team raised the most donations ($2,500) for B.C.’s Children’s Hospital and won the grand prize for the whole team at Skiing Louise in Banff. The prize includes transportation courtesy of Canadian Airlines and accommodations at the Chateau Lake Louise CP Hotel. In total $8,500 was raised for the hospital. Smaller yachts will sail a similar but shorter 77-mile course. Because the competition is well offshore, sailboat racing seldom attracts a large crowd and seats are at a premium. The best way to experience the action is at the start, and WV‘C has again orga- nized commentary and festivities for all at Dundarave on Friday morning which will be a pleasant way to start off the lone weekend.
