know when your car needs atten-
tion, the following suggestions
from Car Care Council will aid
you in knowing what needs to be
done to your auto and when to do
it.

* Watch to see if your engine is
hard to start, uses gas excessively,
is sluggish, smokes, or is ex-
cessively noisy;

* be sure that your cooling system
is in good condition. The advent
of more hot weather could bring
about the failure of a hose, belt or
other components;

*heavy loads at high speeds on
hot surfaces are hard on tires. To
avoid failure, make sure tires have
plenty of tread and are properly
inflated;

¢ oil is not only a lubricant, it is a
coolant as well. And clean, well
filtered oi! will help your engine
survive the heat;

«check your transmission. Does it
slip when you shift gears? {s it
noisy? Does it shift erratically?
For those who tow a trailer, it is
especially vital for your transmis-
sion to be in the best working
order possible;

* be sure that brakes stop evenly,
and are not making any ‘‘funry"
noises;

*watch to see that lights are
working and that they are focused
correctly, Also check turning
signals and windshield wipers for
smearing or streaking.

repair shop. If this task seems

SUZANNA BLUNT, the West
Vancouver painter who Toni
Onley calls the best portrait artist
in Canada, will mount a one-
woman exhibit at the Ferry Build-
ing this Tuesday (May 7).

The show, which includes most-

mortality. It is the first one-
woman show Blunt has given in
many years.

According to the artist, who
graduated from London's Royal
Academy of Arts, an oil painting
is more ‘alive’? than a
photograph because it picks up
subtleties that a camera misses.

“That’s what this exhibition is
about. | want to show what can
be done with portraits, and that
they can be witty as well as tradi-
tional.”

While her strength is in) por-
traiture, Blunt is also a skilled
landscape artist, an area she hopes
to pursue beginning with an up-
coming trip to Southern France.
