Cap play based on journals WE ALL know it’s wrong to peek into someone’s journal to get a glimpse of his or her private thoughts. But a new Capilano College production allows you to succumb to the temptation. Hall of Mirrors, a theatre department) production running from March and 19-23, is based on journals kept over a two- month period by Capilano College theater and English students. Forty journal writers were selected to participate in the pro- ject, says theatre instructor Dawn Moore. **The students were encouraged to write in-depth about their lives. They were required to write three sessions a week for a half hour at a time, one and a half hours per week.”* The journals were completed in the fall of 1988, but despite pro- posals, “we kept running into dead ends,”” Moore explains. Finally, they managed to secure funding for a playwright to write the material. They were lucky to secure Vancouver playwright Peter Eliot Weiss. Says Moore, ‘‘in the fall we workshopped the journal material. Peter really participated in the workshop process.’” The play, which includes a cast of 12 student actors, takes place in ten separate bedrooms and a hallway, where characters reveal their intimate thoughts. The au- dience moves in small groups from room to room in ten minute intervals. Set designer Bill Murdoch had a challenge designing ten sets. The production takes place in the Capilano College Studio Theatre RJOS, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $9,$8 and $7. Phone 985-1911.
