NV council ponders no-smoking bylaw VANCOUVER RECENTLY told smokers to butt out in the workplace, and smokers in the Ci- ty of North Vancouver may soon have to do the same under a pro- posed bylaw. Council decided Monday to send questions of enforcement, process and content of a smoking bylaw to the policy committee for its deci- sion on the matter. “An issue for policy considera- tion is whether to include the workplace in a smoking bylaw.” social planner Jill Davidson said in a report to council. “The North Shore municipalities do not include the workplace (in their smoking bylaws),’’ she said. “But the new Vancouver and Pri:sce George bylaws do.”? The regulation against smoking has met with increasing public support, she noted, and municipalities with existing bylaws are being asked to broaden the rules. The city’s major employers —- ICBC, BC Rail and B.C. Tel — each have smoking policies that restrict smoking to designated smoking rooms, said Davidson.
