Damage to the restaurant appeared to be confined to the rear of the building, a false ceiling and inside fur- nishings, while adjacent stores suffered some smoke damage. Investigation by fire department officials and the North Vancouver RCMP revealed that the blaze had been deliberately set. Officials speculate that somebody broke into the rear of the store and set five separate fires in the building. They said four of the fires were set by soaking table cloths on the tables in cooking oil and then lighting them. It was the second fire in the block in under a month. On August 5, just a few stores down from the restaurant, the former Collegiate Sports store was burned to the ground and nearby stores were damaged in the North Shore's worst blaze of the year. The fire department is still investigating this fire which started under suspicious circumstances at the rear of the building. “Fortunately to date there have been no serious injuries asa result of fires,” Ius said.
