It’s the route, which for the past 19 years has started at Ambleside in West Vancouver and ended at Kitsilano in Vancouver, that is going to be reversed this year. Twenty years ago, the race was laid out to roughly follow the path of the Squamish Nation look-out, who watched on the North Shore for the first sign of the salmon return- ing to the rivers, and then pad- dled over to Kitsilano to bring the news to his kinsmen. The new reverse route will start at Kits Beach at 7:45 a.n. and finish up at Ambleside, the site of all the 20th Annual Coho Festival activities. “It is very fitting to be end- ing the race where the Coho are. It will also be ar freshing change for the participants,” said Charles Nash, this year’s -Coho Run organizer. The Coho Run attracted about 300 participants in 1998, bringing the total for the past 30 years to about 7,500 runners.
