Driver killed A 27-YEAR-OLD man died Thursday after the car he was driving fipped over and left the road in the 3700- block of the Upper Levels Highways. According (o a West Vancouver Police spokesnian, the single motor vehicle accident occurred at 4:50 a.m. The driver, whose name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin, was eastbound on the high- way when his 1967 Datsun sedan left the road. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Cabbie clobbered A 32-YEAR-OLD man faces numerous assault charges following an Oct. 31 incident in West Vancouver in which a cab driver was alleged to have been assaulted. The West Vancouver Police were called to the 6400- block of the Upper Levels Highway to find a cab in a ditch. According to a’ potice spokestaan, the driver had pick- ed up a passenger from a bus station in Vancouver. ‘ On the way the passenger allegedly assaulted the cab driver by punching him in the head. Tiie cab driver lost control of his vehicle, snd approx- imately $1,500 damage was caused to the car. Meanwhile, the suspect left the exb and continved on to Horseshoe Bay. . A foot chase ensued, with a police officer chasing the man from the ferr; terminal area io a pas station on Buy Street. A gas staiion employee assisted police in ap- prehending the suspect. Andrew William Lernowich, of no fixed address, now faces two charges of assault and one charge of assaulting a police officer. Lernowich is scheduled to appear in West Vancouver _ provincial court on Nov. 16.
