SO ~ Friday, January 17, 1992 —- North Shore News REAL ESTATE Higher spring demand boosts market BY THE second quarter of 1992, demand for homes in Vancouver should improve significantly, putting up- ward pressure on prices, ac- cording to Royal LePage. “There are now close to 17,000 homes listed for sale in the greater Vancouver area, which far outweigh the number of buyers,’’ says Larry Ferster, vice president for Royal LePage. ‘‘But in- creased migration, lower in- terest rates, and affordable prices should all be good for sales in 1992.’’ Royal LePage expects move-up buyers in particular to boost the resale market, and the condominium market to show stronger growth. “*We believe there is a la- tent demand for homes in Vancouver that will show up strongly in the spring when general economic conditions -— including employment figures — are expected to improve,’’ says Ferster. “The resale market should then continue to be buoyant for the remainder of the year.”” Royal LePage is forecasting a total of 35,500 REMPK* HINBI CHONG OPEN SUN 2-4 home resales in Vancouver in 1992 — up 3% over 1991. The company expects that the average sale price in 1992 will move up 4% to $234,000. Sales and prices are ex- pected to improve nationally in 1992. Royal LePage anti- cipates that the total number of resale homes across Canada will increase by 5% to 315,000 units from 300,100 in 1991.
