Hyacinths. and narcissus, par-
ticularly, can tolerate severe con-
ditions. After the first hard frost,
mulch bulbs planted in the garden
with organic material (straw, peat
moss, leaves, etc.) to keep the
ground temperature constant
through the winter, preventing

heaving during mid-winter days.

Called Floriade, the next exhib-

ition is scheduled for 1992, from
April 16 through Oct. 11. It will
feature indoor and outdoor exhib-
its on a 68-hectare (approximately
200 acres) site of pastoral park
land inspired by the 16th and 17th
century gardens of Versailies and
Hampton Court.

The location is Zoetermeer,
about a 10 minute drive from The
Hague or 40 minutes’ drive from
Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport.
