Preschool hosts fund breakfast FOUR~YEAR-olds from Lynn Valley Parent Participation Preschool will join their parents and siblings in the school’s fourth annual Heart Fund Breakfast on February 28. Everyone will eat a nutritious breakfast at the preschcol, while they learn about keeping a healthy heart from a Heart Fund repre- sentative. Money raised at the breakfast will be donated to the Heart Fund. The preschool’s Heart Fund breakfast tradition was begun in 1988 by Barbara Pierce, teacher at Lynn Valley preschool! for ten years, and is being continued by the energetic new teacher, Orah Costello. Food for the breakfast will be donated by local companies so that all proceeds can go directly to the Heart Fund. Located in the original Lynn Valley School, which was built in 1907, Lynn Valley Parent Par- ticipation Preschool is one of the oldest of its kind. It was founded in 1945 by a group of mothers who were work- ing to raise money to build a community centre. For many years the school was situated in a building on Institute Road, mov- ing to its present location in 1962. The preschoo! is a non-profit organization owned and operated by the parents of the preschool children. Foundation explains name THE STROKE Association of B.C. wants to dispel any confu- sion that may have arisen when the Heart Foundation changed its name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and the Yukon. Stroke association president Louise Hughes said the founda- tion’s new name may have lead some people to believe the two groups have amalgamated. “Not so,’’ said Hughes. ‘‘The Stroke Association is very much a separate organization. For over a decade, we’ve concentrated on direct service and assistance to stroke survivors and their families and we're especially active in set- ting up and = supporting stroke clubs across the province.’’ Meanwhile, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. primarily focuses on raising money for research and is also in- volved in education, she said. There “are more than 40 stroke clubs in B.C. To seach the North Shore club, which meets Tuesdays at 105 West {2th St., call 980- 3987. .
