B3-Sunday News, October 5, 1980 Seen In season opener With only three familiar faces from last season's squad, Nor Wes Caps fans will need a game or two to get to know the current roster. But one name which will easily be remembered following Sunday’s home opener is that of Brian Bowen. The 18-year-old goaltender was the out- standing player in the 5-3 loss of Richmond Sockeyes as the Caps kicked off their 56-game B.C. Junior Hockey League regular schedule before 375 fans at the North Van Rec Centre. Bowen made 42 saves and was instrumental in keeping the score close as the very expenenced Richmond crew were all over the Caps. The Sockeyes have 11 players from preyious years, many of them among the league's Stars, thus making them one of the favorites for the Coast Division championship. Rob Slatten tallied twice for the Caps and defen- ceman Steve Corcoran added their other goal. There were two factors contributing to the loss for the Caps, one being that the match was the third in as many nights. As well, there have been so many lineup chabnges_ throughout the preseason that there were really no set lines and defence partners. “We're going to start working on lines and set plays in practice,” says defenceman John Olyn. We've got to get to know each other and we'll im- prove.” Coach Vern Moberg admits it’s time to work on their systems now that industrial league back in action The expanded North Shore Industrial Soccer League swung into operation Sunday with a full slate of games for the eight team league.
