One of a few bargain holidays

If you're planning a motor
trip to the United States im
the near future, and intend
to charge your gas on an oil
company credit card, you'd
be well advised to take at
least two different cards.
One reader had a bad ex-
perience on a recent trip to
the western USA when his
one and only credit card was
next-door to useless. Due to
some internal problem,
stations carrying his emblem
were restricted to selling gas
for only one hour a day —
usually early in the morning.

Fortunately, our Canadian
reader had enough cash to
get around with no trouble
but it could have been a
different story if he'd gotten
caught in Nevada's “Green
Felt Jungle” and had to rely
on a red, white and blue card
to get him home.

For all of you who are
intending to visit Portugal in
the near future, here is a
letter I received today:

However, you did admit that

Well, 1 am not either but
having just returned from 16
days 1! would encourage
others to visit. The Por-
tuguese are very friendly and
helpful and language b not a

those at Evora, Palmela and
Sagres are well worth it. The
five-star Palacio at Estoril or
the Tivol] in Lisbon will set
you back $65-$75 per day ff

Along with another
couple, my wife and | rented
a villa for a week ts Alvor in
the Algarve. For $59 per day
we obtained an attractively
furnished 2 bedroom, 2

cost was $35 per couple per
day with most meals at top
quality restaurants. Our
most memorable meals were
medallions of veal, at
Gambrinas, Lisbon, chicken
on the spit at Frango Real,
Cascais; and sea bass and
pepper steak at Praia do tres
Inmaos, Alvor.

I recommend 3 days in
Lisbon, 2 for Estoril and
Cascais, several days in
Poesadas and at least a week
in the Algarve. Do not fail to
see Queluz Palace. It bs culy
magnificent.
