” Dear Sir: __OPENLETTER TO. ' We have investigated your. complaint with respect to the connection of ‘the Blue Bus system ~ with ;.the “Crosstown” bus “at —Park Royal and -have concluded changes. bringing this matter to our. attention and giving us the . ‘~opportunity of -éndeavoring -- '- to. make some meaningful You might..be.. interested to know that’ our ‘drivers have been given.» _ periodic instruction over the . past year-to ensure that the “Crosstown” connection is that some improvemenis could be made. This is not to say that there is much wrong with the system, and indeed, . considering that there are -nearly 50 connections made during the ‘working — day varying from. exact meeting times to a.maximum of 17 minutes, we do believe. that the system is quite effective. | Dear Editor: _A couple of comments to. “the. Biddlecombe and An- drews letters in the August 12th edition of the Sunday. madé. Obviously” we can’t control all. of their. actions however we are confident that the vast ‘majority of them. will do their proper duty. - Yours sincerely Derrick Humphreys ‘Mayor West Vancouver News. a First, the letter from Mrs. B. Andrews of West .Van- couver. . Mrs. Andrews, in response to my earlier letter ’ calling for a re-scheduling of - West Van's Blue. buses. to Connect with the Crosstown - Walls around wv Dear Editor: I am writing to. you concerning ‘an article I read —North Van would also _ receive Cypress Park and Bowl and Grouse Mountain because we all know you. in your newspaper (since. your expanded news service “dailies) conce ’ Vancouver’s and conimunity affairs -I haven't gone near ‘the ; , big 2 West alienation with the rest of ~ .. the world. - I want the rest of the West. Vancouverites to know that we stand behind you 100%. Now your plan has a few flaws in it dnd I am writing to you to correct them before you make the mistake... 1. God created the world and West Vancouver and then created the noble and wealthy creature called the West Vancouverite. Also created was a total expanse called the North Shore whose beauty is equal to none. 2. We all agree that lowly tourists have no_ right travelling through West Van and for that matter neither does anyone else. 3. But we want to take your plan one step further: —First, build 10 ft high walls to keep us all oat. —Next, close off all in- coming thoroughfares. —Nort Van would _futomatically get custody of Te ~ 7 Pen ee A Pde Apad Ae Sey | Pn “add eh NS —Take: the Horseshoe ay" Ferry terminals and _ stick them into False Creek right beside the multiplex. plan for. can’t own heaven and earth at the same time (you can keep Horseshoe.Bay). —Don’t forget guard towers and bunkers with heavy artillery on the walls, just in case. —Park. Royal would also have to move out of West Van along with the theatres and the bowling alley because this is a form of entertainment and the ex- mayor of. West Van ‘(old whats-his-name) stated on many occasions that any type of entertainment in West Vancouver would not be tolerated. —Any West Vancouverites wishing to visit the rest of the world would require shots, visas, passports, and arm- bands stating that they were special. —None of the above is any good unless you secede from B.C. and set up your one and ; only embassy in La‘ Belle Province (Quebec). I want you to remember one very important thing that back in the Middle Ages when the Great Plague came, the wealthy often locked themselves in castles (or little kingdoms) and were never heard of again, because they would not ave | aoe aoe Co ee heen World an starvation and ignorance. R. Thompson North Vancouver Control vicious dogs Dear Editor: Having read the report concerning Christine Trevitts daughter, recently bitten by a dog; we would also like to express our concern of dogs in park arcas who aro not adequately controlled. As workers in a Day Care Centre we have on occasions been forced to return with a group of children and can no longer use some of the park arcas because of the danger of stray dogs, even dogs with an adult, some of whom scem to completely ignore the necessity to keep their dogs under control. These park areas arc designed for children, how dissapointing especially in this “Year of the Child”, that we cannot use them safely and without fear. We always ensure that our group of children are adequately supervised as we do not wish to create any disturbance to others, We wish numerous dog owners would also recognize this fact and. act accordingly. The Staff Novaco Day Care Centre North Vancouver . at Park Royal, suggests that the onus should be on Hydro to. re-schedule the Crosstown bus. This is the type of ‘comment I feared from this side of the Lions Gate Bridge. I'd call it the B.P. or Tiddleycove Syndrome, where everything east and In order for the Crosstown to meet with the Blue at Park: it would have to’ Royal,. arrive there five minutes earlier. To do this, the ‘Crosstown would have. to for example, before the Seabus and other buses arrive. I need hardly point out what a. ridiculous situtation that would create. Of course we could solve the first five-minute problem by re-scheduling the Seabus and all the other connecting buses there, plus all the “connecting buses at the now ---—~ leave the Seabus—terminal,- - I'd sure like to have Carol Biddlecombe as my bookkeeper. With her method of calculating, . I'd either save a bundle of ‘money ¢ or rend upit in jail. She conveniently ignofes the waiting time at Park . Royal that can run from 10 to 40 minutes. She doesn’t even consider the travelling time on the West Van bus, or the waiting for same. Nor does she seem to care one whit for the hardship im- posed on the elderly and handicapped, etc., in having re-scheduled Phibbs ex- change, Kootenay Loop, etc., etc., throughout the Hydro system. And T don’t think I need to-télf you, Mrs. . Andrews, that B.C. Hydro and the B.C. Railway were Grandaddy companies long before the Blues were out of -south-of_the L.G.
