Februsry 3. 1991 - North Shore News Cyclist dies in girlfriend’s arms A 23-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man died Jan. 26 in the anvs of his girlfriend after the bievele he was riding collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Third Street and Low Level Road in North Vancouver. The accident: occurred at ap- proxomately 3:30 p.m, According to a witness, the csclist. was travelling east down the Third Street hill on a moun- tain bike that had no lights. The evelist was wearing a bike helmet when he struck the truck head-on just as the vehicle had turned left onto Low Level from Coton Drive. An ambulance crew dispatched to the scene quickly attended to the patient. But Scott Blaine Wiehe died os a result of injuries suffered ino che accident. Wiebe’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Darlene Parton, was at the scene within minutes. Wiebe died in her arms. While Wiebe had been riding home from work, Parton had been driving along Low Level Road enroute to their newly rented house. She had spent the day cleaning the apartment suite they were tn the process of mov- ing from. Meanwhile, pickup truck driver Stephen Alan McConnell, 31. of North Vancouver, suffered cuts to his hands from broken glass. The impact caused extensive dumage to the truck.
