Deep Cove Stage cast
for 13th annual panto

FOR SOME, Christmas
rneans a time for family, a
time to take stock of rela-
tionships and to forge new
ones, Others get lost in the
glitter of gift-giving, rich
food and drink.

For residents of Deep Cove, ‘tis
the season to indulge in the popu-
lar Christmas pantomime, a fun-
loving musical farce characterized
by lavish sets and stock roles.

Tonight Deep Cove Stage opens
its 13th annual Christmas panto
with the legendary fairtyale,
Humpty Dumpty. And some of the
theatre group's original cast have
reunited just for the occasion.

Local actor Ken Turner, who has
played the role of the outrageous
man-hungry dame nearly every
year since the pantos began,
returns in the lead role. The panto
also features Mike Jarvis, who will
lead the booing and cheering,
-Dave Chetwynd as the excitable
King Florimund, Darien Edgeler as
the diabolical! Grimm, and

WASSAAL! ‘
WASSAIL IS an old English word of
many meanings, all splendidly ap-
propriate to this time of year.

Thought to derive from an old
Norse toast, ‘vas heill’’ (your
heal<h), it has come to mean
“festive drinking,” centred
around the “wassail bowl" anid

specifically plays a part.

than the rough stuff they pinch-hit

Fling 2 Ibs of sugar, | tsp
nutmeg, 2 tsps ginger. 6 cloves, Y%
tsp mace, 6 whoie allsoice, 1 top
cinnamon into a large pot and mix
in % pint of water.
