Local artist uses plants JAN MACLEOD has a green thumb. But she doesn’t use it to grow plants. By EVELYN «8 News Repu. For the past 10 years, the Van- couver artist has combed the Lower Mainland in search of bush, moss, weeds, shrubs — almost any type of vegetation she can get her hands on. She uses nature's gifts to make paper which is then sculpted into exquisite handmade bowls, a selection of which are on display at Deep Cove’s Seymour Art Gallery until Friday Qune 22). “1 use bullrush, grasses, straw, manilla, moss and papyrus,” notes MacLeod, who also makes wall sculptures and handmade notecards which have been distributed world-wide. “1 gather the plants around Vancouver, from our cabin on Hollyburn, and when I’m on holidays | go to the dessert and gather dead cacti.” To create her bowls, MacLeod uses a relatively simple paper- os LIKE.
