RCNP seek witnesses to fatai accident

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP are searching for witnesses

who may be able to provide

information for the detach-

ment’s investigation of Sunday’s fatal two-car collision at
the intersection of Mount Scymour Parkway and Berkley

Road.

David Cooke and Georgia Lee
Cooke, both 39 years old, died
after the car they were driving in
was struck by a second car at ap-
proximately 10:20 p.m.

According to police, the Cookes
had been travelling south on
Berkley, after having attended a
family get-together. The Cookes’

car pulled out to turn east on
Mount Seymour Parkway in front
of a westboind vehicle. The west-
bound car, 4 ‘75 Firebird, struck
the driver’s d- door of the
Cookes’ '88 ‘:ynadai 2xcel. Both

vehicles came to a rest in the east-
bound lane.

An off-duty paramedic was the
first on the scene and called for
four ambulances to respond to the
scene. Georgia Lee Cooke was
pronounced dead on arrival at
Lions Gate Hospital. According to
investigating coroner Ed
Hourigan, David Cooke, who was
the driver of the car and who was
wearing a seatbelt at the time of
the collision, was dead at the
scene.

The North Vancouver couple

died of multiple trauma injuries
caused by the motor vehicle acci-
dont.

The driver of the Firebird, 19-
year-old Stephen Daniel Larizzo
and his passenger, 20-year-old
Robert James Sharpe, both of
North Vancouver, sustained minor
injuries and were sent to Lions
Gate Hospital.

Police have yet to determine the
speeds of the two vehicles involved
in the collision. Pending an autop-
sy report, police have not ascer-
tained svhether alcohol was a con-

tributing factor to the accident.

Police say a witness, who was
going to make a turn north on to
Berkley from Seymour Parkway
from the eastbound traffic lane of
Mount Seymour Parkway, told
police another vehicle was behind
his car waiting to make the same
tum.

Police are asking the driver of
the car to come forward. Informa-
tion from this witness or any other
witnesses to the fatal accident may
be forwarded to Cpl. Ewen
Freethy at 985-1311.
