Choose contractor carefully

following are some tips from in-
dustry experts to case home
renovating:

© Decide on the work to be done
before choosing a contractor. ©

*Get referrals from local
building associations, friends and
neighbors and check this out. Get
the contractor’s business licence
number, Better Business Burcau
reference. and Home Builders’
Association and check them out.

estimates for your project. The
contractor should state in writing
work to be done, materials used,
. length of project and price.

¢ Obtain a written contract and
guarantee indicating contractor
responsibilities, including materials
and permits. It should describe the
job completely.

© The contractor should main-
tain adequate public liability,
property damage insurance and
workers’ compensation.

© The contractor should obtain
building permits and be availablc

so that all work can be inspected |

by local building inspectors.
© If you must change your. plans
