Coordinate with walleoverings

THE USE of coordinating fabrics with wallcoverings
is an excellent way to tie a room together.

Wallcoverings with coordinating fabrics on uphol-
stery and in curtains or drapes complement each other
and add charm to a room.

Wallcoverings and coordinating fabrics can be pur-
chased in focal decorating stores, home centres, paint
and walicovering stores, and department stores. All
are good sources of decorating advice.

When shopping bring along samples
draperies, upholstery and carpeting.

Start with an idea of what look you hope to
achieve. It can range from traditional to contem-
porary, or anything in between. To establish the
overall style of the room, use the pattern, color and
texture of the wallcoverings as the jumping off point.

Ceiling fans could
pose possible hazard

OWNERS OF ceiling fans are
warned that the fans may pose a
possible danger if not installed, in-
spected’and maintained properly.

Several incidents have occurred
over the past few months in which
the motor and blades of ceiling
fans have worked loose and fallen
to the floor. It was found that im-
proper installation and assembly
led to excessive vibration and wear
on the supporting mechanisms
resulting in this hazard.

Owners or operators of installed
ceiling fans should inspect them
regularly for vibration and signs of
wear in the supporting mechanism.

Here’s how:

© Operate the fan at its highest
speed and check for visible vibra-
tion,

e With the power turned off,
examine the support mechanism
for wear by removing the top and
bottom bell shaped covers.

If: vibration and/or wear are
noticeable, the fan should be
removed from service and repaired
or replaced by a qualified person.

Properly installed fans which
show no vibration or wear should
be examined at frequent intervals.

the many wallcovering collections that include coor-
dinating fabrics and borders as well as an array of ac-
cessories, such as window treatments, pillow cases and
bed linens.

Another consideration is the room being decorated.
Choose a design and pattern scaled to the dimensions
of the room. A vertically striped pattern in a room
with a low ceiling, for example, will give it stature.

When it comes to the choice of color, remember
that colors are warm, cool or neutral. A room that
gets little sunlight might benefit from the warmer
shades of red or yellow.

Use the cooler shades of green or blue if you're
looking for a formal atmosphere. To establish sereni-
ty, use the neutral shades of beige or gray.
