Police arrest armed man A 22-YEAR-old man was arrested after he was discovered by police at Lonsdale Avenue and 0th Street carrying a sawed-off shotgun and u karate weapon. Charged with two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and carrying a concealed weapon is Jom Kevin Smythe, 22, of North Vancouver. Smythe was arrested after he was observed by a North Van- couver police officer carrying a large, red clothes bag, which up- peared to contain a basebail bat. The officer asked to see the contents of the bag and was shown the karate weapon. Police said the man then bolted and ran towards Lonsdale Avenue. Chris Paul, 35, of Vancouver and Brandon Paul, 29, of North Vancouver are jointly. charged with attempting to sell fish not caught with a commercial fishing ficence and taken from the Capilano River and Burrard Inlet during a time closed to commer- cial fishing. The charges were laid in connection with an Oct. 23 seizure of cohe salmon by fisheries officers. Chris Paul-faces an additional charge of illegally selling fish in connection with an Oct. 19 fish seizure. Appearing before Judge J.B. Paradis, the two were remanded to Dec. 15 to allow them to get legal counsel. Players kick off ‘Kidfinders CANADIAN FOOTBALL League players will be in West Yan- couver this upcoming Saturday and Sunday to help kick off the recently created Kidfinders’ Program. The players wil! be at McDonald’s Restaurant, on 1455 Marine Drive, signing autographs and posing for pictures from 12 to 3 p.m. McDonald’ S, in cooperation with the North Shore Optimist Club, will be giving away free french fries fo every child who signs with the program that weekend. Registration in the program is free, however donations will be welcomed with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House and the Alzheimers Society of B.C. The Kidfinders Program was founded this year by CFL veteran Lary Watkins. The non-profit program is a service designed to assist children, seniors or the handicapped, should they become lost or disoriented.
