Joe and Cyra Frank like
old houses. So much that
four years ago they bought a
run-down house in the heart
of North Vancouver City
which was built in 1911.

Not ones to tackle 4
project in a_ half-hearted
way, Joe and Cyra have.
completely re-built the
house, trying to keep the
original flavour which might
be described as “Carpenter's
Gothic with a Victorian
Influence”. Life must have
been a little different back in
1911 as the dining room i
huge with a 10’ 6” ceiling and
the living room is somewhat
smaller. There is a stone
fireplace in the living room.
Both rooms have bay
windows. Shding = French
doors separate the hving
room from the entrance hall
and the dining room which
has fabric on the walls. ;

The Frank house has four
bedrooms and two baths, a
15 foot deck out the back
over the carport with a view
of the city, and a well land-
scaped lot which is 60° x 140’.

Upstairs, the renovations
were very extensive, starting
with a new roof, new
Gyproc, new wiring and new
carpets. One of Joe and
Cyra’s goals was to rebuild
the house to original specs
and period wallpaper was

~found. Also, damaged aid
missing trim was re-created
to match the original pieces.

The kitchen could be
described as a “country”

kitchen with its stucco and a
Straw and brick chimney.
