T.C, Ward President and CEO BC Ferry Corp. irked at transit subsidy Dear Editor: It’s an outrage that North Vancouver City employees will be subsidized by taxpay- ers to the tune of 25% of the cost of their monthly bus passes to encourage their use of public transit, as approved in a recent city council meer- ing. What about all the long- suffering North Vancouver City taxpayers who do sup- port the transit systeny with our patronage? Nobody offers to pay 25% of our bus pass cost. There are many obvious benefits to using public tran- sit for commuters: reducing traffic congestion, slowing the depletion of the ozone. car insurance, ete. Why do these employees at city hall need such special treatment ar taxpayers" expense? Once this additional perk is in place, TL expect it will be adjudged = part oof ther employee benefit package and become just one more perma- nent benefit that the taspay- ers have to keep on paying for. Veay the mayor and coun- cil overstepped the bound- anes of good judgment when they upproved this” latest extravagance. Let's remember this on the next civic election. E.
