February

A total of 1,343 hous-
ing units were started
in metropolitan
Vancouver during
February, which was
up slightly from
February 1996,
according to figures
released by Canada
Mortgage and
Housing Corporation
(CMHC).

The February, 1997 tig-
ures. show that 266. single
family homes were started,
along with 877 units in mul-
tiple structures.

“The new housing marxet
is just beginaing to show
signs ofa strong spring mar-
ker,” said CMHC Vancouver
market analyst Don Renaud.

“The supply of unsold
units, and in particular single
detached homes, has declined
in all areas and should lead ro
tising construction levels
over the coming months.”

Housing starts in
February were highest in the
Ciry of Vancouver where 410
units were started.
