Businesses call for UI reforms A coalition of nine major national business associations has released a report calling for a broad reform of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, The report, entitled Canada's Unemployment Insurance Program: The Case for Reform, proposes a number of changes designed to make the UI program more responsive to current and future conditions, encourage flexibility in the labor market and reduce the costs to employers and employees. The underlying issue is job cre- ation and the enhancement of Canadians’ employability. The proposed UI reform is intended to produce significant cost savings for the UI program and pre- mium reductions for employees and employers which would be an incen- tive for hiring by the private sector.
