Hiliside students

APPROXIMATELY 150 Hillside Middie School students
walked out of classes Wednesday afternoon to protest the
fact that they must remain in schoo! a week longer than
their counterparts at Sentinel Secondary and West Van-

couver Secondary.

To accommodate Grade 12 ex-
ams, Sentinel and West Van stu-
dents completed the school year
on Wednesday. But Hillside,
which until this year dismissed its
students on the same date as the
other schools, will continue regu-
lar classes to June 20.

West Vancouver are both out

1988 the school was designated a

pressure on Hillside staff to sup-
port the implementation of more
environment-friendly initiatives at
the school.

Williams said he'll be consider-
ing whether or not students will
have to put in time for classes
missed.

schoo! because you need the desks

and the gym and things like that,”
Williams said. ‘“‘Now that we are
a middle school that ts not ne
sary. This is the first year we've
not dismissed at the same time the
other schools have. We do have a
few who think it’s grossly unfair.
At the end of iunch hour [ gather
they didn’t come in.”’

While out of class, some stu-
dents removed litter from the
school field.

“We have to think about that
one. They missed class time so
perhaps they will have to make it
up some time octween now and
Wednesday,” he said.
