A two-day motorcycle training course is offered by the Action
Driving School. Learn techniques such as slow-speed manoeuvres,
balance and braking, high-speed steering and emergency pro-
cedures on a lot, then take to the road to practise road skills such
as parking on a hill, changing lanes, riding in a group and backing
down a hill.

Theory instruction is also offered. A motorcycle, helmet, gloves
and raingear are supplied at no additional cost.

Graduates of the scliool are invited to join the Action Riders’ [|
Club, which, in warm months, meets every second Thursday even-
ing in Burnaby for group rides. .

Road raily scheduled

JOIN OTHER motorcycle riders in
a weekend event that includes a
timed road rally, field events, bike
judging and social activities.

The Greater Vancouver Motor-
cycle Club is hosting the 60th An-
nual Caribou Trails Road Rally on
the weekend of Friday, June 29 to
Sunday, July 1, in Hope, B.C.

The timed road rally consists of
a series of specific routes that must
be followed in order to arrive at a
predetermined place at a
predetermined time. For each

minute a biker arrives late or early
at a check-in station, one point is
levied. The rider with the fewest
points accumulated at the end of
the rally wins.

Fees for the weekend (before
June 1) are $35 for the rider and
$20 for a passenger; after June 1
they are $45 and $25 respectively.
Fees include camping spots,
Saturday dinner and dance, Sun-
day breakfast and a t-shirt.

was a biker, Whittaker left and
asked a sheriff to come back to the
motel to verify the bookings.
“That time, the clerk was very nice
and said ‘yes, we do have a
cancellation, so we can give you a
room.”

“TI said, ‘thank you very much, I
don’t want to stay here,’ and, hav-
ing made my point, I jumped on
my bike and headed off into the
night, only to find that I couldn't
find any other place to stay.”

He ended up staying in a
“‘squalid’’ hetel about 60 miles out
of town, where he stayed up all
night watching his bike to make
sure it wasn’t stolen — but at least
his principles were intact.
