TORONTO-BASED  Nani-
ing Trends — a company
that charts the naming of
ew products — has releas-
ed a report that identifies a
growing amount of ‘name
pollution’ in the automobile
industry.

“Car names could confuse
buyers because the automobile in-
dustry has become so enamored
with the letter ‘A’? thar a distinct
naming trend is taking shape,’’
the report states.

In particular the company
points to the plethora of car
names ending in the letter ‘*A’’:
Acura, Asuna, Achieva, Altima,
Corsica, Elantra, Festiva, Integra,
Lumina, Maxima, Miata,
Presidia, Samara, Sentra, Screnia,
Sonata, etcetera, etcetera,

A similar trend occurred in the
computer industry following Ap-
ple Computer Inc.'s introduction.
Suddenly there was a barrage of
‘fruity’ computer names such as
Cherry, Banana, Pineappie and
Apricot.

Maybe the auto industry should
note that only Appie and Apricot
survived.
