50 - Sunday, November 29, 1987 - North Shore News Lifestyles. 757TH ANNIVERSARY Stamp commemorates Grey Cup THE CANADIAN Football League received 15 million more reasons to celebrate the 75th an- niversary of the Grey Cup Game when Canada Post officially laun- ched sales of a special 36-cent stamp to commemorate the event. Launched recentiy at a ceremony at Posthouse, 1010 Howe Street in Vancouver, the stamp design features a football in play, a crowd of spectators and the Grey Cup superimposed on a_ backdrop depicting a regulation Canadian football playing field. “There are few lasting events which capture the imagination and attention of the country to the ex- tent of the Grey Cup game,”’ said John Aiken, vice-president of field operations and sales for Canada Post. If we ‘don't have what you need we can usually supply your part within a few days. 1948 game where Calgary fans, complete with chuckwagons, brought the hometown spirit to Toronto and inspired an unheard of attendance of 20,013; and, of course, the 1977 ‘broomball’ blowout in Montreal where atten- dance reached an all-time high of 68,318 in the Olympic Stadium. The amateur football players, philatelists, Special Olympic athletes and other guests attending the launch of the stamp were treated to a first-hand viewing of significant Grey Cup memorabilia, including the game ball from the 1964 victory by the B.C. Lions, the Schenley Award, and the Grey Cup itself. All items were made available courtesy of the Canadian Football League, the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame and the B.C. Lions. Members of the B.C. Lions Alumni were also available to sign commemorative first-day covers of the stamp which carry a Van- couver, B.C. postal cancellation, in recognition of the location of the 75th Anniversary game. Created by Toronto designer Les ‘Holloway, 15 million of these 36- cent stamps have been printed in five-ccior lithography. The stamp is the final issue of 1987.
