News Nov. 14, approv- ed of the animal organ transplants. How many more babies will be used and defenseless animals sacrificed in these horrifying scientific experiments? There ts insufficient money and interest for the millions dying from starvation but tens of thousands of dollars are spent for just ONE of these dreadful transplants. Is this what people REAL- LY want for their children or family? TO PROLONG LIFE AT ANY COST? Mes. C. How short our memory is! Could we not now extend this to Wednesday or all week evening shopping to sausfy the shopping needs of all the people, without having to give up the one day of the week that the majority of smail businesses would ap- preciate spending with their families to enjoy our beautiful community? My final comment is directed to the Park Royal Merchants Association: on your campaign with massive advertisements in the North Shore News and on your read-o-graph signs expressing ‘FREEDOM OF CHOICE”’, what about the freedom of choice of the small merchants in Park Royal Shopping Centre who would have NO Freedom of Choice to stay closed if they so wished, had the referen- dum gone YES? May | sug- gest you teach what you preach, quote, ‘‘lt’s a simple matter of Freedom of Choice’’, unquote Frank Beallie West Vancouver Dear Editor Public access to wilderness areas is a necessity which the government has recognized by providing parks. Ay a city dweller, [| have frequently delighted in Cypress Provin- cial Park. In the winter, the park is a_=pristine and peaceful wonderland and with easy city access, if 1s everything a park should be. Perhaps | should say that 1t was everything a park should have been. During the winter, the park is onty accessible on skis or snowshoes. This year, Cypress Bowl Recreations, a Private company, will levy $3.75 to cross-country ski in this area. The government has, in effect, hcensed a private company to charge admission to the park. I say this is wrong, that they have no nght to turn our park over to private enterprise Having created a park, the government has a duty to ser- vice the roads and parking lots that render it accessible to the public. If they wish to allow for the provision of ad- ditional services, such = as groomed trails and first aid huts, then let i be at a reasonable price. |, for one, feel that the woods, the trails and the snow are enough in themselves. We don’t allow for private swimming pools, concession stands, or boat rental agencies in our parks, so why should we allow com- mercial skiing businesses to be established. We, the public, have a right to free access to Cypress Park, whether it be on = cross- country skis or by foot. Piers Drew Vancouver DR. L.P. HILTON PODIATRIST - FOOT SPECIALIST 101-140 W. 15th N.
