No, he’s not one of the ‘big’ names like Read, Pod- borski, Irwin or Murray, but the young athlete will be making his mark on the Inter- national circuit, per- haps even this winter. Styan, and the other members of the famous Canadian skiers were on the West Coast last week taking some grueling fitness tests at Simon Fraser University’s kinesiology department before heading off to Switzerland for some down- hill and Giant Slalom training. For the North Shore resi- dent, this will be a ‘come- back’ year. Last January Styan suffered torn liga- ments in his knee, and has been on a recovery program which culminated with muscle firming, qualified masseuse. Facials, wrapping. After a relatively quiet August, it was back to train- ing for Styan and the team with the Switzerland training being followed by dryland work then on to Austria for more downhill work. Styan and the other mem- bers of the national ski team are looking forward toexcel- lent snow conditions in Europe this winter. The cool summer has meant good buildups of snow in the mountains and on the glaciers.
