Ellswerth Dickson The price: of gasoline went up seven cents per gallon on Monday. And of course it is not going to stop there. In the U.S. they are already selling gasahol in a number of states. There are‘ also government incentive ‘programs to install alternative energy ‘Sources such as solar collectors. Today’s question is: “Should our government provide = more incentives for alternative — energy developements?”’ Peter North Vancouver Yes, I do think the government should encourage people to develop other energy sources such as gasahol. I run on apple juice myself. Whiifred Flechtman ‘North Vancouver _I don’t think gasahoi and ",sOlar energy is the an- ’ swer. What we need is a ‘ powerful, yet practical form of energy or engine. Maybe hydrogen is a good idea. I think the internal combustion ‘engine will become obsolete. Glenn Williams North Vancouver I don’t think we are really short of gas, but I think it would be a good idea to help farmers produce gasahol from their unused crop. Solar technology is practical. We had a solar powered repair shop in Burnaby and it worked real well Greg Andiley North Vancouver Yes, I would like to see government incentive programs, perhaps with income tax rebates for installing alternate energy collectors. The govern. ment should be morc aggressive in this arca John McUicNand North V ancouves Yes, we should follow the lead of the US We should cxpand the home insulation program, encourage gasahol production, and have tax rebates for installing solar collectors on your roof Marker buoys placed at’: the mouth of the Capilano River have prevented any -. serious incidents this year involving _ fishermen and ships passing under the Lions Gate bridge, according to Vancouver Harbour Master Henry Vondette. With the price of food and the price of salmon, Von- dette said, nobody likes to keep the fishermen away from the mouth of the Capilano River where they have gathered in recent weeks in an attempt to catch spawning salmon. But Vondette said it was anticipated there would be problems involving small boats blocking the passage of ships, so this year preventative measures were taken. “We have placed marker bouys to the west of the Capilano River and we have put out™a message to ship- ping to say the buoys have been laid there” he said. “We are then hoping that everyone will appreciate the consideration that has been given to them,” he said. Police boats —have also been patrolling the area as often as possible, he said. “I'd say that it seems to be working reasonably well.” He admitted there have been some people who just won't obey the rules, but said that to his knowledge there has been no near misses between the fishing boats, and ships, as has occurred in earlier years. with cheese $7 69 $1.9 Wed., Thurs., & Fri.
