Dear Editor: _I often wonder’ how many anti-abortionists have ‘personal knowledge of what it is like to be pregnant with an unwanted child. I do. At the age of twenty I found myself in exactly that predicament. I was on my own with no living family and just starting out in a promising career. Legal abortion except where the life of the mother was en-_ dangered was prohibited so I decided to take my own life. The attempt failed and I awoke in a hospital where I encountered an under- standing doctor. He would not perform abortions himself but gave me_ the hame of an M.D. that did. Thank God for that man. Twenty-five years have Ashamed of ‘humane’ Dear Editor: Regarding your News Viewpoint column, page A6, July 9, 1980, entitled “July Decision”. Doubtless there are many sides to the issue of abortion. However, it is of much concern to me that abortion should be considered “the only humane approach to this tragic human problem”, to quote your article. Is it “humane” to end the lives of these children simply Because they have no voice? When unwanted children are abandoned to die, no one seems to consider it “humane”. When refugees flee from a war-torn country, unwanted, would it be “humane” to simply let them die? passed and I have had an exceptionally and rewarding career and marriage to a wonderful man, together we have two beautiful “wanted” - children. There are many reasons we object to this downzoning including that it is inequitable for owners of the effected properties in that it will reduce thew values; it will also limit highrise development only on certain undeveloped properties but not on others. We also note that the type of development that will be fostered by the proposed RML-4 zoning will be contrary to the objectives of the community particularly by views at street level.
