Waste Management Strategy for Greater Vancouver. The Strategy,
if fully implemented, should result in a 50% reduction in garbage
from businesses and homies in the region. The proposed strategy

includes the following initiatives:

* Auser-pay system for waste from households

* Expanded Blue Box Recycling program to
include materials like cardboard and plastic

* Manufacturers pay some costs of handling pack-
aging waste
-Mandatory «ecycling by businesses and industries

° Waste inventories and reduction plans required for
businesses and industries

¢ New transfer station in Surrey and a new out-
of-region landfill to replace Port Mann landfill

* Possible expansion of Cache Creek landfill

° Continued use of Vancouver Landfill at Burns
Bog in Delta and the Burnaby Incinerator.
