Opiata Software Inc. will receive a $157,500 loan from the federal Western Economic Diver- sification Fund to help the local firm launch a $350,000 marketing campaign for the seven new soft- ware packages called FlareWare. “The new software programs are very home and lifestyle oriented,’ said North Vancouver MP Chuck Cook, who made the funding announcement on behalf of Western Economic Diversifica- tion Minister Charles Mayer. “They should appeal to novice computer users who would like a means of simplifying and organiz- ing their paperwork at home.’* The software packages include: RecipeFinder, a personalized index of recipes; Keepers, a means to organize publications for future reference; EasyMoney, a flexible budgeting and banking program to keep bank accounts, credit cards, expenses and cash in order, DateMate, a calendar planner which does different schedules for different activities; EasyWriter, which simplifies letter writing by setting up the letterhead and for- mat; MailMate, an easy and effec- tive mailing list program; and PaymentPlanner, which automatically calculates costs of leasing, loans and mortgages. “Each program is designed to do only one thing and to do that one thing easily and effectively,” said Geoffrey Danzig, Opiata Software president. ‘‘We’ve designed them especially for peo- ple who don’t know much about computers but who want help with everyday tasks.”’ He added that there is a large niche market between the avid, sophisticated computer user and the computer game player.
