DAYCAMP PROGRAM

Camp Gitchigoomi returns

STEVE AND the gang are back
for more fun and craziness this
winter and spring at recCentre Ron
Andrews.

Camp Gitchigoomi is an exten-
sion of the summer daycamp pro-
gram operating out of recCentre
Andrews. Steve Ritchie is the lead-
er who brings a wealth of experi-
ence to a program full of coopera-
tive games, crafts, outdoor activi-
ties, swimming and out-trips.

A graduate of the Capilano Col-
lege Outdoor Recreation Manage-
ment program, Ritchie has travell-
ed extensively both locally and in-
ternationally. His interests include
exploring the outdoors, skiing,
various water sports, and en-
couraging others to enjoy all kinds
of leisure activity.

“Girl or boy, big or small,
athletic or not, there’s something
for everyone at camp Git-
chigoomi,’’ says Ritchie. ‘*And
whether it’s a new friend, a new
skill, or a new activity, everyone
will bring something home at the
end of a full and busy day.’’

Single parents
hold event

NORTH SHORE Parents Without
Partners, chapter 737, invites all
single parents and their children to
joir: in a special event.

Participants can meet on Sun-
day, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. at the en-
trance to Cypress Bowl in North
Vancouver, and should bring
warm clothing, a snack and a bev-
erage, and skis, sled, toboggan,
snowshoes or whatever else will be
suitable for snow.

Parents Without Partners is a
non-profit, non-sectarian, educa-
tional organization dedicated to
the interests of single parents and
their children. The organization is
also involved in many community
service projects.

Poster contest held

IT’S POSTER contest time again
at the Lynn Canyon Ecology Cen-
tre.

Children ages four to 13 are in-
vited to put on their thinking caps
and grab their artist’s brush.

This year’s theme is How Can
We Protect B.C.’s Endangered
Species? Posters should show ways
that we can protect the homes of
wild animals in B.C.

There are many prizes including
a whale-watching trip for two to

The deadline for posters is
March 2. Entry forms can be pick-
ed up at the Lynn Canyon Ecology
Centre, or call 987-5922 to receive
one in the mail.
