New fishing firm reels in good year THE NORTH SHORE'’S first professionally guided fishing service has reelea in a successful inaugural year. Vancouver Fish-On Guiding Services Ltd. president Steve Panz said his company serviced close to 800 customers in its first six-month run from April 15 to Oct. 15. “And we estimate they caught close to 2,000 fish in that time," Panz said. ‘‘So we are really pleus- ed. We're looking forward to next year."” Fish-On, «which moved into fa- cilities formely occupied by oper- ators of th: Whytecliff Marina, will henceforth be the only business operating from the pic- turesque Whytecliff park site. In April, West Vancouver District Council voted to permia- nently close the Whytecliff Marina after the last marina owners had gone bankrupt in November 1985. In October, all remaining vessels moored at Whytecliff were given three months’ notice t’ move. No boats will be permitted to moor at Whytecliff after Dec. 31. Panz launched Fish-On with a $100,009 investment and the phi- losophy that the Lower Mainland, with its good local fishing, needed more than another bait shop and another boat rental service. While such noted personages as the mayors of Saskatoon and Calgary and the wife of movie star James Garner were among Fish-On customers this year, Panz said the majority of the company’s clientele came from the Lower Mainland. “So it’s not just a service for tourists.
