carpet not only adds elegance to
any home decor, but can increase

tween a saxony and a shag.

How do you select a carpet that
will not only enhance your decor
but will withstand day-to-day traf-
fic and still maintain its luxurious
look?

A new carpet can represent a
sizeable investment. The following
tips will help you select the ideal
carpet for style and function while
ensuring the best return on your
investment.

e Determine the quality of your
carpet by checking texture, depth
and density of the pile or yarn. A
good, long-wearing carpet will
have a dense, closely-packed pile,
firmly secured to the carpet’s
backing.

The best way to check pile den-
sity is to bend back a corner of the
carpet to see how much of the
backing shows.

The more backing you see, the
less fibre there is to walk on, and
the less durable the carpet will be.

*Select carpet fibre for
wearability. There are four major
man-made carpet fibres on the
market today — nylon, acrylic,
polyester and polypropylene.

Nylon is the most widely used,
the strongest and the most durable
of the man-made fibres. In addi-
tion to being attractive it is ex-
tremely resistant to abrasion,
mildew and moths.

toom in which the carpet will be
used prior to selecting texture and
color. Style, while a predominant
factor in selecting carpet for your
home, should not be your only
consideration. Your choice will be
affected by the function of a
