Dear Editor

I cannot let this time slip
by without expressing my
very sincere thanks for and
appreciation of the
thoughtful care and kindness
given to me by doctors and
nurses at Lions Gate
Hospital.

The Coronary Care Unit is
very special — no matter how
rushed they may be — if you
need help — there‘s always a
marse there at ycur side in on-
ly a few seconds — pleasant
and comforting.

In spite of cutbacks in stati
and funds, they all do a
splendid job — ! firmly
believe this, and wish people
would think twice, or pinch
themselves or something
before grumbling and
complaining.

Stranger than fiction is the
opposition of certain peace
protesters and politicians to
the proposed American
“‘space-wars’’ defence system
which is designed as placing
an electronic shield around
North America against in-
coming nuclear missiles.

One would think that a
system that will kill nobody
and would, theoretically,
save millions of lives would
meet with their whole-
hearted approval. Not sv.
The opposition of these
political protesters to the so-
cailed star-wars technology is
as ludicrous as opposition in
Greek and Roman times
would have been towards the
invention of the shield as a
defence against truculent
warriors’ swords, spears and

The purpose of this letter
is to draw the attention of
the Christian Churches and
their congregations ts the
Canadian Christian Council
for Animals. :

This Vancouver based
group encourages the Chris-
tian community to become
active in promoting animal
welfare. It is not a question
of putting animals before
people. It is our conviction
that ‘all suffering should be a
Christian concern.

The Council reminds
Christians that, ‘'All things
were made by Him’’, God,
(John 1:3), and that ‘in
whose hand is the soul of

every living thing’, (Job
12:10).
We submit that our

stewardship can only be
demonstrated by the nurture
and not the exploitation of
the whole creation.
