Tel. 985-2131 HOCKEY TOURNAMENT WRAPPED UP SEATTLE SNO-KINGS took the 1981 North Shore Winter Club midget A tournament with an 8-3 victory over the Richmond Centennials last week. Seattle won all four starts nament, which featured 16 in the 19th annual tour- teams from three countries. The host team, North Shore Winter Club Flames, lost two games, including the C division final by a 4-1 score to Coquitlam. The Flames had won the tournament in 1979 and 1980. The team that came the furthest distance to par- ticipate in the tournament, Umea _ Birchleaves from Sweden, lost all three games to be quickly ehminated. Several awards were presented at the end of the highly successful prestigious tournament. Alister Cook of the Winter Club was named Most Sportsmanlike Player,Randy Douville of Abbotsford got the award for Most Valuable Player in the tournament, and Umea was given the honors for Most Sport- smanlike Team. The host team, which is in the midst of rebuilding following its two highly successful years, began the tournament by defeating Umea 6-3. However they then lost a close game 7-6 in double overtime to Rich- mond, to get relegated to the C division. The Winter Club defeated Vernon, again in overtime, 6-5, to move to the C semifinals. They beat Cowichan Valley 7-2 before losing 4-1 to Coquitlam in the C final. The Winter Club Midget A Tournament wasn't the only one involving the North Sy BA\\\ SECTION Seattle wins at Winter Club Shore over the Christmas holidays. Two local clubs participated in the Burnaby Winter Club International Christmas Tournament, and one of them, North Van- couver, came first in the Juvenile B division. One of the team’s four straight victories was a 2-I squeaker over the North Shore Winter Club. North Van_ startéd the tournament with a 4-1 win over Burnaby, which they followed by shutting out Grandview 4-0. In the third game North Vancouver shocked Coquitlam 9-2. After the victory over the Winter Club, North Van went on to the final against Coquitlam, which put up a better defence but still went down 42 to the powerful North Vancouver team. Meanwhile another North Vancouver squad was posting a third place finish in the Kamloops Annual Peewee Tournament.
