track, spent four years in Europe and

No culinary slouch himself, Jonn decided
to follow his friend’s lead.
‘He's done a great job. Pasta-
: Works items, created largely without
. Italian influence, have customers raving
about unique items like Stone Crab
- Agnolotti. Then there are the sauces ~ _
., Spicy Eggplani and Artichoke; Lemon
~ Cream; and the tangy Santa Fe Cream.

A concern for presentation

~ Tilkin is the Belgian-born pastry chef
who owns Van Den Besch Bakery, and
the popularity of his pastries, cakes
and breads ~ made with the finest
ingredients from Belgian, French and
Dutch recipes - have earned hima
huge following.

This wedding season, Tilkin is
the man brides turn to ~- he did, after all,
give Vancouver the White Chocolate
Wedding Cake. Other favorites are the
Zebra Cake and his special ‘Fraisier’
strawberry cake.

New for summer is the Lemon
Souffle Cake, the mouth-watering Banana
Chocolate Cream Pie; and Tilkin's Fresh
Fruit Pies - strawberry, raspberry,
blueberry or assorted fruit - are so
popular that you should place an order to
make sure you'll get one.

"One interesting thing about The
Market is watching business grow," says
Tilkin. "We get a new set of customers
each month. It's nice to see them come

in and get to know the place.”

A lec Tidey has seen an
increase in business - he

now has ‘rush’ days.

Tidey is the West Van native who,
post-pro hockey, found his calling in
the security business. Since opening
Tidey Lock & Key at Park Royal, he has
developed one of the Lower Mainiand's

- most extensive key boards, a huge

clientele for his 24-hour mobile locksmith
service, and he’s West Van's
only engraver.

Tidey Lock & Key has new prod-
ucts now, including the high-security
ASSA Deadbolt System for apartments, a

in 1984 and says that his store
at The Market is the best yet. .

Black, along with son Adam and
manager Derek Wardas, finds that
customers love his gourmet case, which
carries free-run chickens and eggs,
Canadian bacon, homemade meat pies
and stews, plus Alberta beef aged from

“Business is great. The decorations are
in - in Park Royal's ‘Shopping By The
Sea’ motif. The floor is freshly-glazed,
we're getting new signage this month,
the new crosswalk will be more conven-
ient for shoppers, and the driving range
will open soon.

"So all of the merchants at The
Market are excited, positive and happy.
That atmosphere makes The Market a
great place to be."
