Lacrosse Indians lose
first place to Lakers

THE NORTH Shore Indians lost their second and third
games of the season last weekend, and with both losses, top
spot in the West Coast Senior B lacrosse standings.

On Friday night, the then
first-place Indians hosted
_ second-place Burnuby Lakers. A

lively crowd was on hand for this.

much-anticipated battle between
the two top teams, and although
the action. was .end-to-end for
most of the game,
period loss of concentration by the
indians :marked the downfall of
the team... -

At the end of the first. 20
minutes the 0-0 score reflected the
tight defensive period. Both teams
played cautious offence, never
committing their defencemen too
_ deep in the offensive zone.

At 17:27, of the second pericd,
-Wayne Baker opened. the scoring
for the Indians, but just 39 se-
--conds later Burnaby evened the
score. |

‘Both teams traded a pair of
"goals over. the next ten minutes,
--with the Indians dominating play.

third, and the Lakers crossed the
Second Narrows Bridge with a
well-deserved win.

On Sunday night, the Indians
travelled to Nanaimo to face the
third-place Timbermen. The loss
on Friday night should have in-
spired the Indians, but Nanaimo
was ready to play, knocking the
Indians out of first place with a

- 15-10 victory.

To press time, the Lakers were
in top spot with 34 points (17-3-

0), with the Indians two’ points
