In Oosoyoos, the Petite C Tigers pulled off a victory over Penticton and two excellent games against Poco and Vancouver Island. As a relazively inexperienced team, the Tizers’ OUosoyoos performance is promising for next season. Meanwhile in Poco, six teams took part in the Provincial Tour- nament. The Petite B Lions needed a win in their last game to make i- through to the big game but, despite an excellent team game, came up two goals short. The Tween A Hawks defeated rival North Shore Winter Club, Vancouver, and Surrey but fell to strong teams from Poco and Langley. The Deb B Blues went winless as did the Junior A Breakers. The Deb A Selects were pitted against a determined North Shore Winter Club team in their last game of the round robin and, despite a first-class effort, failed to overcome an early NSWC lead. Sunday evening at Karen Magnussen Arena, the North West Vancouver Junior A_ Breakers played host to a team from Roblin Park, Winnipeg, for an exhibition game where the visitors sank the Breakers 8-2. some formidable air time. Starting tomorrow, cross-coun- try skiers ranging in age from seven to 50 and in scope from Ca- nadian and U.S. national team members to recreational skiers will inundate the area for the final race in the 10-race series. The Pacific Coast Sprints, the first event of the race, will be held Thursday night and entails a free technique for men and women over courses of 5 and 10 km. On Saturday, skiers will race in the classic technique event in distances from 1.3 to 14 km, and on Sunday skiers will compete in the demanding free technique event over distances ranging from 1.3 to 30 km. Both races start at 9 NEWS photo Paul McGrath a.m. and continue through mid- morning. North Shore skiers involved in the Canada Cup are sisters Lisa and Wendy Malin and Sarah Coll- ings. Lisa, 12, will ski in the midget category as will 12-year-old Coll- ings, while Wendy, 10, will race in the mini-midget age group. The start and finish of the races are behind the ticket office and Hollyburn Ridge. All spectators are welcome to watch the races. Blazers fry T-birds IN A fitting way to close out the regular season of the Greater Van- couver Teen Ball Hockey League, the North Shore Neighbourhood House Blazers played to an easy 27-7 victory over the Trout Lake Thunderbirds Friday night at the Neighbourhood House gym. Two of the youngest members of the Blazers made their first points of the season. Both Cory Taylor FORMER NATIONAL ski team member Todd Brooker was on hand at Cypress Bowl on Sunday as part of the Coors Light ski safety awareness .{ program. Brooker, 30, was signing autographs, giving out safety tips and rewarding safe skiers with safety stickers. and Dave Ridgewell scored a goal and made an assist each during the course of the well-played game. Blazer Richard Brodie scored five goals while team mate Jade Bryan brought home four assists. With a 12-2 record for regular season play, the Blazers are look- ing forward to next week’s league playoffs.
