Of the 196 new cars and trucks available in the Canadian marketplace for the 2000 model year, a total of twenty-one are all- new and twenty-six have been significantly redesigned. This year, most of the new models are cars, with a few new sport utility vehicles, pickups and one new mini-van thrown-in to round out the “What's New” list. Some models have been discontinu Ford and Chrysler have eliminated similar vehicles with different badges: for example the Plymouth Caravan has been discontinued leaving the Dodge Caravan, and the Mercury Sable has disappeared leaving the new, redesigned Ford Taurus. The Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze have disappeared leaving the Chrysler Cirrus to carry the mid-sized sedan banner. Dodge and Plymouth Neons have been replaced by the Chrysler Neon, Dodge Avengers replaced by Chrysler Sebrings. Plymouth now has only one model, the Prowler, and speculation is that the Plymouth brand will go the way of Eagle. Dodge is left with one car model, the Viper — the rest of the Dodge lineup are trucks. Over at Ford, Me loses the Sable and Mystique but keeps the Grind Marquis and Cougar. The Ford Contour and Escort have been replaced by the Focus, which comes as a hatchback, sedan and wagon. By the way, Ford of Canada has merged its Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealerships, so all Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles are now sold at Ford dealerships. GM and Toyota have also lost a few models this year: the Chevrolet Lumina, Ofdsmobile 88, Toyota Paseo and Tercel are history.
